Time's Up!

Time's Up!

52/52 for Monochrome 52

This is my final "official" photo for the Monochrome 52 project over on Google .

I started the project, as you might expect, about one year ago. One monochrome shot per week taken and posted.

Generally, I have enjoyed the exercise, but I don't have plans to continue on into year 2.

I have always liked the look of monochrome/black and white for certain photos and I expect that will not change.

I will continue to process and post monochrome images, but not in conjunction with this particular project or on any self-imposed deadline.

App Monochrome / Walking Man Project

App Monochrome

This past summer here in Anderson Indiana, there was an invasion. We were invaded by 10-foot tall steel creatures. In many ways, they were similar to one another in other ways they were astonishingly unique.

They arrived all over town -- 31 of them, all told. There were maps available, but it was fun to be surprised by finding them places you might not expect.

I enjoyed discovering the Walking Men sculptures around town, but it wasn't until I learned there was a photo contest associated with the city-wide project that I began taking photos of them with any purpose.

Here (in this set) are some of the photo I submitted to the contest. Many of them were selected as weekly winners. Seven were selected as best photo for a specific WM sculpture.

I was happy to participate in an event that brought our community together in a fun way.

Since the summer, many of the Walking Men have gone away. Some remain where they were all summer. Others have been relocated to public parks and riverways.

This one, for example (called App) was located in the downtown area outside of a bank, but has now been relocated to a park near a lake along with several of his WM friends.

I decided to use this black and white WM as my monochrome 52 shot for this week and figured it was as good a reason as any to post a bunch of others from earlier this summer.

The Lemon Drop

The Lemon Drop

I guess because this building is bright yellow, I've never really considered it for a black and white photograph, but it turned out OK!

Anderson Arts Center Chandelier

Anderson Arts Center Chandelier

This is a chandelier at our local Arts Center. My company hosted its annual Christmas party there last night. I was interested in this chandelier as a photographic subject, but I try to be discreet in such settings. This was meant to be just a blind (not looking through the viewfinder or live view) test shot for purposes of focal length and framing.

I ended up widening up a bit and getting a straight on shot without the camera shake, but ended up liking this one better, anyway. Go figure.

Revisiting this location as the building that once stood next to the remaining smokestack has been demolished, leaving only rubble.

Inside A Grain Bin

Inside A Grain Bin

Inside a grain bin. This one had been emptied and was used as a location to watch a short video about working on a farm. I attended a field trip with my son and his Kindergarten glass a few days ago. Couldn't resist the radiating lines, here.

Detour

Detour It was a detour that led me to this barn out on a country road. The combine was out and you can see that the corn there had been partially harvested.

FREE & Works

FREE & Works

I loved that they couldn't be bothered to get a piece of paper to write on, so they just wrote "FREE & Works" directly on the top of the set with a marker. I only wish they'd written it on the screen!
