Monochrome in Living Color
Possibly the best (certainly the easiest) method of converting a color image to monochrome is for there to be so little discernible color in the original image that no conversion is necessary.
This is straight out of the camera.
This is a natural light attenuator in the ceiling of the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
