SPC - New Year Resolutions - #5.1

February's theme over at Self Portrait Challenge has been revealed as 'Black & White.' This is about the most 'freestyle' theme they've had over there for quite some time. It ought to be interesting to see what people come up with.

Since the normal posting day (Tuesday) is still in January, but the bulk of this week is in February, I'm going to make this post work for both themes.

So, my January resolution is to "Stay Warm."
And, obviously it is Black & White.

In this photo, I'm wearing my Sears Work'N Leisure winter coat. This coat used to belong to my Dad. I think I discovered it in the basement when I was in high school and it's been 'mine' ever since. I love this coat. It has several things going for it:

1.) I feel that when I wear it, I resemble Han Solo at the beginning of Empire Strikes Back.
2.) Snorkel hood -- can be flipped out or flipped back for desired warmth/vision.
3.) If I'm sledding and don't have a sled -- no problem. It's long enough that I can just sit on it and it's slick enough that I don't even need a sled, ha!
4.) Keeps me warm & toasty.
5.) One word: Bulletproof

BALANCE

I've been enjoying poking a bit of fun at the whole concept of 'New Year Resolutions' this month. I'm still not one to go in for them, and I probably never will be, but I have been thinking lately about balance, so...

Photo Friday - 'Peaceful'

Peace
Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth." -- Genesis 9:16.

SPC -- New Year Resolutions - #3

QUIT DRINKING!
QUIT DRINKING!
I'm happy to report that except for a minor incident involving some too-loose-clothing and an over-achieving juniper-scented candle, last week's resolution to quit smoking has been going very well.

I have a feeling that my resolution for this week is going to be much tougher. Perennially on the Top 10 lists for New Year Resolutions, I've decided to put in my best effort to quit drinking.

Fortunately for me, I have never been one to consume alcoholic beverages of any kind, so that's one whole category of drink that I won't have trouble avoiding.

I also have been known to eat entire meals without a drink of any kind, so I've got that going for me, too.

Unfortunately, I do occasionally get thirsty and I do enjoy a cold or hot beverage from time to time -- but I am resolved to quit drinking, and so I shall!

More Self Portrait Challenge resolutions HERE.

Do you think that I should also be avoiding moist foods???

QUIT SMOKING!

As you can see, my first resolution to shave more often is not going so well already! I really hope that this one goes better; I believe it will!

P.S. -- I've never so much as touched a tobacco product of any kind.

Photo Friday - 'Sister'

'Sister'After a few obscure Photo Friday themes at the end of 2006, the first one for 2007 is 'Sister.' Conveniently enough, we have a brand new 'sister' in our house, and even though this picture was posted just a few days ago, here it is again for Photo Friday.

Photo Friday -- 'Best of 2006'

The final Photo Friday of each year is always non-themed, which gives posters the opportunity to show their best/favorite shot of the year.

I've chosen this shot...

...not because it's perfect, but because it is probably the shot I took this year with which I was most pleased. I was pleased with it because it used a technique that I'd worked on during the Summer, called panning. This time, though, I only had one chance at it and I was happy with how it turned out.

All the best to you in the new year!

SPC - New Year Resolutions - #1

I'm not one to go in for 'New Year Resolutions,' but I've got a few ideas about how to play along for Self Portrait Challenge, nonetheless.

My first resolution is one that I probably should do anyway, but, in all honesty, I have no intention of actually doing:

SHAVE MORE OFTEN

If I can get away with it (and I usually do), I only shave once a week.
